The debrief
Tuesday reads as a threshold session, though you didn’t log an intent, so I’m going by the shape of it. The 4:41 /km average looks slow next to your recent tempo work — until the conditions weigh in: 24 °C with a dew point of 19, and a 160 m climb through the middle third. Adjusted for both, this sits exactly where a controlled threshold effort should.
The thing worth keeping is the last two kilometres. Heart rate held steady while pace faded eight seconds — on a cool, flat day that split would mean fatigue, but in this heat it’s the expected cost of holding effort. Nothing here argues for changing the plan.
Priorities:
- Keep tomorrow conversational — the week’s load is climbing faster than the base under it.
- Drink earlier on warm days; the drift started at the hour, not the hill.
It reads the conditions.
Heat, wind, and climb are folded in before any judgment. A slow split in a heatwave isn’t a slow split.
It knows when to say nothing.
Short history, missing heart rate, thin data — the debrief narrows its claims instead of guessing. Silence beats a confident wrong answer.
It speaks runner, not dashboard.
Pace in minutes per kilometre, effort in plain words. Numbers appear when they change the sentence, not to fill a grid.
